The discipline of STEM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, has been a topic of hot conversations in academic circles for a while. The concept, itself, has to be credited for all these talks as it did break status quo and took itself to where it is by the day. In actual, more than a discipline STEM is a trend that has been able to infiltrate almost every other discipline and, in general, daily life.

There has been more recent attempts at taking STEM to elementary level education that can make up for development of scientific temper for young brains in quite subtle manner. Scientific temper holds answers for many day-to-day problems such as inventing new mechanical ways of cleaning or devising new ways to make translation easier through computing/programming, and more than those answers it about greater and greater inquisition, more and more whats and whys. India, our own country has seen a great surge in number of students subscribing to programme, very likely to highest in world. One phrase answer to this development is “its demand in market”.

At this historical juncture, though, India is younger than ever and number of students in its schools, college & universities are more than ever. But when it comes to those students reaching industry, a shortfall in skills becomes clearly visible as various Industry leaders point it out quite often. To bridge the gap, companies in almost every sector ranging from automobiles to artificial intelligence are arranging for training centres, which itself is a form of STEM learning and it further clears on the fact that there is no other way but to learn it and  learn it sooner rather than later for good. Project based learning which demands knowledge and skill application is definitely going to dictate future, which shall prepare students to participate in the workforce and compete in the global economy.

There is no doubt to the fact that science challenges mythology and traditions, for that some undertones of opposition are quite obvious especially when children at early age are made to face it. However, all it has turned out to be is a mere insecurity and actual truth is that the technical age has helped in taking forward the culture to maximum number of people with more debates around contradictory and critical points offered by it.
