Arunachal Pradesh (Land of the Dawn-Lit Mountains) is thinly populated hilly tract in the eastern most part of India but geographically, it is the largest among the North-east Indian states commonly known as the Seven Sister. It shares international borders with Bhutan in the west, Myanmar in the east and China in the north. Itanagar is the capital of the state. States State day is observed on 20th May. Other symbols: State Bird Hornbill, State Flower Foxtail Orchid, State Animal Gayal, and State Tree Hollong. India’s largest Buddhist monastery is at Tawang. Modern-day Arunachal Pradesh is one of the linguistically richest and most diverse regions in all of Asia, being home to at least 30 and possibly as many as 50 distinct languages in addition to innumerable dialects and sub dialects thereof but English used as the official language.

Education Status

According to the Census 2011, Arunachal Pradesh has a literacy rate of 66.95% (male literacy rate 73.69% and female literacy rate 59.57%).

State government offers free education to students up to the age of 14. English is the primary medium of instruction in various schools in Arunachal Pradesh and also to the colleges and universities as well as other professional institutes in the state. Institutes offering higher education in Arunachal Pradesh consist of two universities one deemed university, two polytechnic institutes, one law college and several recognized professional colleges. North Eastern Regional Institute of Science And Technology (NERIST) plays a very significant role in raising the technical and management education in the state
