Gujarat is a state in the western part of India known locally as Jewel of the West. State day is observed on 1st May. Gujarat is the main producer of tobacco, cotton, and groundnuts in India and with 60% production of in. Animal husbandry and dairying have played vital roles in the rural economy of Gujarat. The Amul (Anand Milk Union Limited) milk co-operative federation stirred the White Revolution of India (also known as Operation Flood) which made the milk-deficient nation India into the largest milk producer in the world, in 2010, and it is Asia's biggest dairy. Gujarat is the only home (natural habitat) of Asiatic lions (Gir Forest National Park) and outside Africa.
Education Status
According to the Census 2011, Gujarat has a literacy rate of 79.31% (male literacy rate 87.23% and female literacy rate 70.73%).
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) is in charge of the schools run by the Government of Gujarat. However, most of the private schools in Gujarat are affiliated to the CBSE and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) board.
Gujarat has 13 state universities affiliating many reputed colleges and four agricultural universities. The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, is a premier and oldest university of Gujarat. It is Gujarat's only fully English Medium State University and originally known as the Baroda College of Science (established 1881). Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) is unique institution in professional education to train managers for rural management and it is the only one of its kind in all Asia.
