Tripura is a landlocked state in North East India and the third-smallest in the country covering 10,491 and is bordered by Bangladesh. The name Tripura is Sanskrit, meaning "three cities". State day is observed on 21st January, State animal is Phayre's Langur, State bird is Green imperial pigeon, State tree is Agar, and State flower is Nagesar. Only one major road, the National Highway 44 (NH-44), connects Tripura to the rest of India. Tripura is an agrarian state with more than half of the population dependent on agriculture and allied activities and it is noted for bamboo and cane handicrafts.

Education Status

According to the Census 2011, Tripura has a literacy rate of 73.66% (male literacy rate 81.47% and female literacy rate 65.41%).

Tripura has a total of 4,455 schools, of which 2,298 are primary schools which are affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE), the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) or the Tripura Board of Secondary Education. Tripura has one Central University (Tripura University) and one private university (a branch of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India). There are 15 general colleges, two engineering colleges (Tripura Institute of Technology and National Institute of Technology, Agartala), two medical colleges, three polytechnic colleges, one law college, one music college, and one art college.
